About Gill
For most of my life, I used food as a way to switch off my stress response and soothe my anxiety. It was my comfort following a long day at university or work, when I’d slump on the couch feeling tired, bored, and unfulfilled. Some nights, my binge included two chocolate bars, two pot noodles, half a loaf of bread dipped in ketchup (weird, I know!), crackers, and more. I’d go to bed feeling disgusted with myself, only to repeat the cycle the very next night.
Looking back, I can see what was going on:
-
I was unaware of how deeply food impacts not just our bodies but our minds
-
I saw food as comfort, not nourishment
-
I was emotionally eating because I felt out of alignment with the person I wanted to be and the life I wanted to live
This vicious cycle continued for years, but slowly, things began to shift. As I started putting myself first, taking risks, and living more authentically, both personally and professionally, the night binges began to lessen. Educating myself on the power of nutrition helped me further break free from the cycle. I learned how food could nurture not just my physical health but also my mood, energy, and mental well-being. When I slipped back into old patterns, I found myself reaching for healthier options, and the binges became less harmful.
My struggles with food have been my greatest life lesson. They taught me that when I live from a place of fear and inauthenticity, my relationship with food becomes a struggle. But when I choose to live from a place of love, alignment, and excitement, everything, including how I eat, gets better.
As I learned to heal my relationship with food, I also discovered how profoundly diet affects overall health. By removing certain foods, I was able to reverse Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, heal my gut and recover my energy after years of battling a number of diseases that had left me chronically fatigued. But my turning point came at 26 when I was diagnosed with thyroid carcinoma. Years of living out of alignment, ignoring stress, and relying on processed food and alcohol had taken their toll. My health was in shambles!
Through changing my diet and managing my stress with self-regulation techniques, I optimised my health and significantly reduced my anxiety. Food became my medicine, and it continues to guide me toward living authentically and fully.
Then motherhood hit and wow, was I unprepared for what it brought. A difficult pregnancy and a traumatic birth left me feeling anything but idyllic. The lack of time, mental clarity, and the stress of caring for a new baby made it incredibly hard to maintain my self-care and health routines. But through experimentation and self-compassion, I found my way back. That experience inspired me to create a program specifically for mums.
Food is so much more than fuel, it’s the foundation for a healthy body, a clear mind, and a joyful life. When we understand our unique challenges with food and take small, intentional steps, lasting change becomes possible.
My journey led me to become a qualified Nutrition Coach and Holistic Wellness Coach, as well as a member of the International Institute for Complementary Therapists (IICT). I’ve spent the last eight years immersed in the study of holistic health.
Fascinated by alternative methods of healing for both body and mind, I’ve done a fair bit of travel to explore the ancient healing traditions of Shamanism, Ayurveda, and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
